ESP - Comunications Associate

Position: Communications Associate
Level of effort: 1 year (renewable), based in Jakarta

BACKGROUND
The Environmental Services Program (ESP) is a fifty-eight month program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented under the leadership of Development Alternatives, Inc. (DAI). ESP activities are focused on six High Priority Integrated Provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java and Yogyakarta, and East Java. ESP also supports a limited set of activities in five Special Imperative Areas: Padang, West Sumatra; Balikpapan, East Kalimantan; Manado, North Sulawesi; and Manokwari and Jayapura, Papua.
Organizational context
ESP¢s communication work is managed through the integrated Strategic Communications for Behavior Change component. The Strategic Communications for Behavior Change component plays an important role in achieving the overall program objective of reduced incidence of diarrhea for children under three through a two-track approach that integrates health and hygiene (HH) communication for behavior change and public outreach & communication (POC). Program Communications activities focuses on building awareness and understanding of USAID¢s ESP by providing regular and thorough communication of ESP program news and results to all relevant partners through workshops and events, internet-based information services. The Communications Associate provides support to Strategic Communications works.

OBJECTIVES
The primary role of the Communications Associate is to support a balance of Strategic Communications activities in Jakarta, with occasional support for such activities in other High Priority Provinces. Special emphasis will be given to the facilitation of high profile workshops, seminars and other events that are intended to attract media in order to communicate ESP principles or program objectives.

DELIVERABLES
The Communications Associate is responsible for the following deliverables:
1. Support POC coordinator to maintain ESP¢s stakeholders/media relations in Jakarta
2. Technical input into Strategic Communications for Behavior Change annual work plan;
3. Successful implementation of Jakarta-based Strategic Communications events;
4. Contributions to technical reports including but not limited to MMC evaluations, Quarterly Reports, Annual Reports and other ESP technical reports;
5. Monthly submission of human interest stories to ESP News; and
6. Timely administrative and financial management support for relevant work.

The Communications Associate reports to and receives technical guidance from the POC Coordinator in Jakarta, and interacts closely with the Health and Hygiene Behavior Change Coordinator and the Program Communications Coordinator.
